The Mary A. Kilfoil Award for Outstanding Contributions to Advancing Innovation in Entrepreneurship Education

This award honours an individual that has demonstrated extraordinary achievements in innovative entrepreneurship education. The recipient of this award will be recognized for excellence in curriculum innovation, including, but not limited to, novel approaches to entrepreneurship education, student engagement in entrepreneurship across disciplines, entrepreneurial education in non-traditional disciplines, experiential learning pedagogy, or an integrated approach to entrepreneurship with members of the community.

This award is open to an individual employed by a Canadian university, college, or community-focused non-profit or government organisation offering entrepreneurship education.

Application Process

  1. Clearly state the purpose, strategic goals, objectives and intended target audience of the innovative entrepreneurship education activity.
  2. Explain how the applicant has leveraged strategic partners from diverse backgrounds, resources and networks to develop a comprehensive education program or activity.
  3. Describe the innovative entrepreneurship education program and explain in what way it is innovative.
  4. Explain how the applicant has demonstrated enabling entrepreneurship education opportunities for those who identify as a member of a traditionally underrepresented population in entrepreneurship, such as but not limited to Black, Latinx, Indigenous, women, LGBTQIA, or students from low-income backgrounds.
  5. Provide a list of specific achievements and/or related outcomes, with a brief explanation that demonstrates the impact of the educational program.
  6. Explain how this activity distinguishes the applicant from their peers.    
     

The nomination document should be a maximum of 3 single-sided letter-size pages, formatted with 1-inch margins, and using a minimum 11-point font but applications may include up to a maximum of 10 supporting pages in the form of appendices, supplemental materials, letters of support, examples of the work, etc. 

Judging Criteria

Nominees are judged on a scale from 0 to 4, where 0 indicates that the requirement is not met, 1 indicates requirement was minimally met, 2 indicates requirement was partially met, 3 indicates requirement was completely met, and 4 indicates requirement was exceeded:

  • The applicant has clear goals and a defined target audience for providing innovative entrepreneurship education [5% weighting].
  • The applicant has demonstrated consistent and effective work in enabling entrepreneurship education opportunities for those from traditionally underrepresented populations such as but not limited to Black, Latinx, Indigenous, women, LGBTQIA, and students from low-income background [15% weighting].
  • The applicant has activated a significant group of strategic partners from diverse backgrounds [10% weighting].
  • The applicant has secured resources, support or participation from disciplines outside of their own, to achieve the goal of the program [5% weighting].
  • The applicant has been recognized by their students and peers for effectively mentoring students [10% weighting].
  • The applicant has been recognised for their excellence in entrepreneurship education in either curricular or extra-curricular settings [25% weighting].
  • The applicant has created and implemented a unique and innovative approach to entrepreneurship education [30% weighting].  
     

Submission Notes

  • Please use the weighting in the judging criteria to guide the content of your application.
  • When including supporting pages, reference these in the nomination document so it is clear how the additional items relate to the nomination.
  • The supporting pages should be appended to the 3-page nomination document and submitted as a single PDF document in the online form.  Applications should aim for a maximum combined file size of 20 MB.
  • Each award will typically have one winner; however, the judges may decide to award more than one winner where a tie is determined.  
  • Award nominations should only include new information that has not been previously awarded for in the past.

Winners may be asked to provide a representative on the Award Judging Committee to evaluate nominations the following year.
